District Governor visits Doylestown

At our July 9, 2014 meeting, we welcomed District Governor Gary Fedorcha. Gary is a member of the Rotary Club of Slatington and is a retired teacher. Gary discussed topics important to him as the Governor of our District and emphasized this years theme “Light up Rotary Through Education”. One of his major initiatives is to bring more education to the district. Education is the future of Rotary. The way forward is the continued education of both Rotary members and the community about Rotary. He said Rotary clubs need to publicize everything they do to help heighten the awareness of Rotary in the community.
Rotary is adjusting to changes in society. We need to welcome all people, such as busy young people with families. Rotary International is adjusting to these realities by reducing the meeting attendance requirements and allowing the hours you devote to Rotary in other activities to count toward meeting attendance. We also need to look at alternatives to when clubs meet and how they meet. One way Rotary is doing that is through a new initiative called satellite clubs. A satellite club can help organize smaller communities around current clubs, or provide an alternative to regular meetings that gives members more flexibility to attend meetings.
He also said its important to support our high school Rotaract and college Interact programs. These young people, and their parents, are the future of Rotary. Those organizations teach young people leadership and service above self, something they get nowhere else. And through those organizations we build future Rotarians.
