At our April 29th meeting Francis Sakuda of the Maasai gave an outstanding presentation on how our wells and pipelines have affected the lives of the more than 10,000people and thousands of livestock who partake of the water.

In the horrendous drought being suffered in the Rift Valley where the Maasai live this water has meant the difference between life and death. Seven villages are being served by the wells and the pipeline. Another major impact of the wells has been on their ability to bathe and wash clothing on a regular basis. This has greatly reduced illnesses which result from a lack of cleanliness. Francis told us that the Maasai need five more wells to make water to the other 10,000 people and their livestock who are at too great a distance to benefit from the current wells,

To help in getting water to the rest of Oloshoibor, the Maasai homeland, it was announced last night that Jill and Stephen McDonnell will make another $30,000 gift towards a Rotary Matching Grant to provide two more wells for the Maasai.  Francis told us that the Langata Rotary Club is willing to help with the additional wells So we are moving full steam ahead on the grant.

In addition to Francis, his wife Susan, two of their children and two other Maasai attended the meeting giving us the opportunity to socialize and have a direct connection with some of the people that we are helping..
