John T. Brown, Jr. of Doylestown passed on Friday, January 24, 2014.   He was 85 years old.   John was the husband of Ruth C. Deal-Groves. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Naomi D. Snyder Brown and John T. Brown, Sr.

John lived abroad and in various states on the east coast, but considered Bucks County home.

He was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University.  He worked for IBM for 38 years as a Senior Marketing Manager and Manager Consultant.   John was a principal of his own consulting firm for 4 years, leading information study teams in the U.S. and Europe.  He also served as Secretary/Treasurer for his wife’s business, The Celtic Pavilion.

John was active in Episcopal Church for many years in Pennsylvania and Delaware, serving on the vestries of 6 churches and/or as a member of Finance Committees, Accounting Warden,  Building Committees and Senior Warden/Rector’s Warden.

He was active with Habitat for Humanity: Sussex County, Delaware:  Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Founding President, Chairman-Fund-raising and in Bucks County as  past treasurer, past director and board member and construction volunteer.  John was past president of the Plumstead Lions Club and of the Lewes, Delaware Lions Club, also serving on the Board of Directors there.   He was a member of the Doylestown Rotary Club serving as the Maasai Well Project Coordinator and had been honored with the Maasai Staff of Leadership.

Additionally, he was chair of Johns Hopkins University Eastern Shore Alumni; Member of the City of Lewes Long Range Planning Implementation Committee; Shipcarpenter Square Homeowner’s Association: Trustee and President;  Lewes Chamber of Commerce: Executive Director; Sierra Club: Chair of Sussex County Chapter; Upper Makefield Township Planning Commission; Special Equestrians: Board of Directors, Fund Raising, Director 5k Race and a Free Mason.

John was passionate about his family, as well as, “Gus the Griffon,” champion JW Top Gun of Tidewater; dog shows; traveling; literature and people.

In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by his three children:   Jeffrey J. Brown, his wife, Barbara A., of Doylestown; Lydia L. Hertzler, her husband, Glenn J., of Doylestown and J. Thomas Brown, III, his wife, Deborah S., of Richmond.   He is also survived by six grandsons: Jeffrey J. and James Brown; Collen A. and Ian N. Hertzler; Russell C. and Justin A. Brown; three granddaughters, Katharine E. and Rachael A. Brown, Lindsay E. Brown and three great-grandsons: Henry T. Hertzler, Alexander T. and Jack C. Brown.

Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service at 1 p.m., February 1st at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 84 EastOakland St., Doylestown. Interment will follow in Doylestown Cemetery.
