Bill & Kathleen's Excellent Adventure - Antarctica
At our Dec 19 meeting, as part of our educational series, our own Bill Vantine regaled his 2 week adventure in the beautiful but harsh land of the penguin (Antarctica).
In their retirement, Bill and his wife Kathleen have become world travelers going to some exotic places. This trip was an Eco-Tour of Antarctica. They traveled from South America in a small ship, 114 passengers, through the hazardous waters of Cape Horn to the Antarctica peninsula. Needless to say there are no hotels or gift shops in this part of the world and the temperatures are a balmy 26 degrees below zero. Bill had some fabulous pictures and stories.
Bill Vantine studied photography and graphic design in his youth. He worked his way through college as a commercial photographer. Dr. Vantine taught at the elementary, secondary and college levels and spent twenty-six years as a Superintendent of Schools and as the Executive Director of the Buck County Intermediate Unit. In his retirement, he has combined his interest in photography and foreign travel.
