The University of Arizona’s BIO5 Institute mobilizes leading researchers in agriculture, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, science, and computational analysis to find creative solutions to humanity’s most pressing health and environmental challenges. Since 2001, this interdisciplinary approach has been an international model of how to conduct collaborative research, and it has resulted in innovative diagnostics, devices, and technologies, as well as promising new therapies and improved food crops. Additionally, BIO5 has parallel missions focused on training our next generation of scientists and impacting the Arizona economy. 

Lisa Romero is the Senior Director of Public Affairs and Engagement for the University of Arizona's BIO5 Institute. She leads a team responsible for all marketing, communications, public relations, event, tour, education outreach, digital technology, and stakeholder engagement efforts focused on advancing brand impact for a translational science research institute with over 300 members spanning 60+ departments across the university.

She has more than 25 years of experience developing and leading organizations in the area of strategic marketing communications including external relations, public affairs, brand management, messaging, outreach, social media, media campaigns, event planning and execution, stakeholder relations, community engagement, and organizational alignment around mission/objectives. 
 
Ms. Romero is a writer, presenter, consultant, advisor, and mentor. As a native Tucsonan with a professional background that includes academia, corporate, and non-profit, she believes strongly in creating sustainable, meaningful connections and partnerships across the university, community, and state.
