The flag was raised in the friendship garden after a short presentation to staff and council about polio and the effort by Rotary to eradicate the disease.

The mayor, staff , councilors and Rotarians also participated in a "Purple Pinkie Activity" All had their pinkie finger coloured with a purple marker just as the recipients of the polio vaccine are marked to keep track of who has received the vaccine.
