On February 1st, Third Term Executive Councilor Chris Sununu, addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua regarding the Executive Council. Sununu is also currently CEO of Waterville Valley Ski Resort. He grew up in Salem, NH, got a degree in Civil Engineering, and spent ten years cleaning up hazardous waste, which he called his passion.
He currently lives in Newfield, NH with his wife and three children
He has fond memories of coming to Nashua Country Club where his parents were members.
In 2010, Waterville Valley was the first New England Ski Resort to “re-localize”. Where a group of local investors decided to re-invest in Waterville, as opposed to selling to a larger, national ski concern.
This is Waterville’s first expansion in 35 years, and the other investors came on board with the stipulation that Chris run the ski area.

He told the club about his new appreciation for New Hampshire’s north country, and how his life is much more weather driven.
The club learned that the Executive Council approves all New Hampshire contracts, and acts a check and balance for the governor. “From the board of Dieticians to the NH Supreme Court, the Executive Council has to approve them, with at least three votes. Many New Hampshire legislators are passionate about the work they try to do in Concord, and the legislature is not as divided as the media makes it out to be. Chris likes the two year cycle for NH Politicos where if you don’t like the performance or the job someone is doing, you get to vote them out. “It keeps politicians out on the street, they can’t hide in an office for their entire term, they have to meet and interact with the people of New Hampshire.
He touched on subjects such as
- It’s important how we govern, it affects people
- NH is different when it comes to elections
- In NH, we have an open door right to the governor
- Elections here are the 5th New Hampshire Professional Sport
- When people contact the Executive Council members, it makes an impact, they often bring those people to meetings to make their case
Questions at the end of his talk covered Rail, Medicaid, Kinder Morgan, and Education regulation.
Whatever you political inclination, Chris Sununu was certainly passionate about New Hampshire, it’s people, and the topics the club raised.
