On November 30th, Douglas N. Arion, PhD, Professor of Physics and Astronomy; Professor of Entrepreneurship at Cartridge College, addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua with an interesting presentation on “Why we are here”…cosmically speaking.

Dr. Arion presented a clear picture of the scale of NH as compared to other bodies in the universe and described how the heavier elements required for life were created. Dr. Arion described past extinction events and how it can occur again.

Dr. Arion stressed the importance of reducing light pollution. Light pollution is the easiest thing to fix....because it costs LESS money, not more. Using good lighting means the bulbs are cheaper, last longer, and use less electricity. It's hard to imagine another problem whose solution saves money.

Dr. Arion provides guided talks and demonstrations at AMC huts and has a number of Astronomy experiments throughout the hut system. So far his organization has delivered 25K telescopes in 110 countries. For more on Dr. Arion, see https://www.carthage.edu/live/profiles/250-douglas-arion.
