On August 24th, Suzanne Koperniak, executive director of Nashua non-profit Village Network, Inc. addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua regarding helping seniors remain happily and successfully in their own homes. Village Network, Inc. is a grassroots membership organization assisting seniors who desire to live independently in their homes. Ellen Curelop is founder and president of the organization.
Village Network offers concierge-like services to help seniors remain happily and successfully in their own homes. The organization is part of a national movement which began 14 years ago on Beacon Hill in Boston. There are currently 120 villages across the country; and 120 more underway. This is akin to a modern day replacement for close knit families who were able to provide services to seniors. This addresses the slip in the continuum of care. Village Network partners with Nashua Senior Center, offering members a membership to the Senior Center. Memberships are $325 annually for individuals; $525 for households. To qualify for membership, people must be age 62 or older. The Village Network helps find local, quality, services including: transportation; home repair/maintenance; assisted living in homes; errands; grocery shopping; meal delivery; household support such as cleaning; bill paying; computer assistance; and access to home-care services.
