On October 2nd, Roger Stephenson from the Union of Concerned Scientists. Stephenson spoke to our group about energy efficiency and climate change, and the risks and benefits that businesses face in these. He discussed how 2016 was the third year in a row to set new records for global average surface temperatures, and how the Gulf of Maine is the fastest warming body of water in the world.
Facts such as these have real life impacts, he explained, on lives, businesses, and prosperity. Businesses from apple orchards to advanced manufacturing companies are equally affected by these changes and unfortunate trends are being seen—the changing climate and weather affects the roads, bridges, crops, and even our access to internet.
Stephenson then spoke to us about the positive impacts of clean energy and the resilience we can build with it. He discussed the incentives and rebates, which can be used to help obtain these sources of energy. He finished his speech encouragingly, stating that cleaner air and energy will help to keep the wheels of commerce moving and, ultimately, will put more money in our pockets.
