On August 28th, John McAllister, President of Nashua Firefighter IAFF Local 789 addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua regarding Operation Warm. Nashua Firefighters Association Local 789 has teamed up with 42 other Locals throughout New Hampshire to distribute made in U.S.A. coats to local children who need them.  Local 789’s goals this year is to raise enough money to purchase coats to outfit 100 children in Nashua.  Coats are 100% made in the U.S.A. and are $34 each.

Operation Warm provides new coats because it knows that it is more than just a warm coat for many children.  A new coat may be the only new item the child has ever received.  New coats help inspire a feeling of pride, excitement and joy, and help raise the self esteem of children struggling in poverty.

In Nashua almost ½ the students in the elementary schools are receiving free or reduced lunch, about 2,300 students.  This statistic is how the School District evaluated the poverty struggles of the families serviced.  The School District is working with the Nashua Local to identify which school will receive the 100 coats and which students are in the most need.  The children who get the coats actually get to pick their coat, color, and have it customized for them.  If the Local raises more than the total goal they will buy as many coats as they can.
