On February 27th, Paul Henle, NH State Representative, addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua regarding “How the State of New Hampshire decides on and raises taxes.” Rep Henley displayed a chart that depicted the fourteen various types of taxes that are collected by our state and quizzed us on  tax we thought ranked #1 in dollars and #2 and so on.
 
As it turns out the rankings in dollars collected adding up to nearly $5.5 billion are:
  1. Local Property Taxes    $3Billion
  2. Business Taxes               $700 Million  (much of this from out of state businesses
  3. Statewide Property Taxes  $363 Million
  4. Rooms and Meals Tax       $300 Million
  5. Tobacco Taxes                 $200 Million
  6. Other Revenues               $154 Million
  7. Liquor Tax                        $140 Million
  8. Real Estate Transfer Taxes    $134 Million
  9. Insurance Taxes                 $123 Million
  10. Dividends Taxes                  $90 Million
  11. State Lottery                       $80 Million
  12. Communications Taxes            $52 Million
  13. Utilities Property Taxes         $43 Million
  14. Tobacco Settlement payments   $41 Million
He explained that the taxes we pay for Tolls, Gasoline and Licenses are fed back into our state’s Department of Transportation for work on highways and bridges.
Rep Henley remained afterward to answer any further questions
