On November 28th, Michael Beebe former owner and operator of Old Temple Mountain Ski Area, addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua regarding Old Temple Mountain and the Ski industry. Michael is Brian’s father-in-law.  In 1936 Michael’s parents, Charlie and Lucie, opened Temple Mountain Ski Area on Route 101 in Peterborough. Three generations of Bebees were involved in the family business from 1965 until 1984. Michael managed it with his wife and daughters.

Mike grew up on a farm in Hollis and in 1960 graduated from Nashua High School. He went away to college and returned to run the operation. For 20 years, he was a member of the Peterborough Rotary Club. At age 2 he began skiing at Temple Mountain. He’s the author of “My Cathedral, Temple Mountain.” He wanted his two grandchildren to know about the family history through stories of Old Temple Mountain Ski Area.

The book was for sale at Rotary today ($20 each, autographed) and they are also available online at templemountainskiing.com. Mike shared the many changes in the evolution of the ski industry over the decades, from skiis, boots, and poles to mountain grooming and rope toes/chair lifts. Mike currently races in the New England Masters Skiing, and proudly shares that he currently skis 40 to 50 times a year!
