On April 1st, Michael Atkins, attorney at Shaheen & Gordon, addressed the Rotary Club of Nashua regarding, the Nashua Area NAACP. Michael has been involved in many local organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program, the French Hill Neighborhood Housing Service, and the Child Advocacy Center. 
Michael has been involved with the Greater Nashua NAACP for approximately five years. He is a member of the board of directors. He serves at the Legal Redress Chair of the Greater Nashua NAACP and the NAACP of NH. The NAACP was formed in 1909, the nation's oldest civil rights organization. It was formed after a lynch mob surrounded a jail in Lincoln IL where two black men were arrested for speaking inappropriately to a white woman. The community said we cannot allow this to happen.
The NAACP has been multi-racial and nonpartisan from its origination to the present. The simple mission to preserve and secure the political, social, educational and economic rights of all persons of color and to eliminate racial hatred. The Local NAACP branch has also partnered with the Black Heritage Trail.
There are 200 branches around the country and in NH there are three, the greater Nashua branch, a Manchester branch and a Seacoast branch. The Nashua branch was formed in 2004 and is growing. Just in New Hampshire from 2017 through the end of 2023 the reported offenses of hate crimes have risen 465%. 
Michael says membership is power and to become a member go to nashuanaacp.org. For $30 a year you can be a member and say that you stand against racial hatred. Please join and stand with the NAACP.
