MILFORD ROTARY HONORS LOCAL SENIORS

The Milford Rotary Club hosted the 31st annual Senior Citizens BBQ luncheon at the Souhegan Valley Boys & Girls Club on Wednesday, October 7th. More than 260 seniors from the surrounding Milford area attended the gathering, which featured grilled chicken, cole slaw, rolls, ice-cream and brownies from Frederick's Pastries, and beverages, but mostly an opportunity to "get out" and meet with friends. For some, it is the only opportunity of the year that they can talk with their friends.

"This luncheon is a wonderful show of appreciation to our seniors," said Seth Zeigler, chair of this year's event.

Large grates were set up to cook the 350 chicken halves. In charge of cooking was Richard "Fitz" Fitzgerald. Assisting him were Ryan Hansen, Jennifer Krause, Alex LoVerme, Frank Manley and David Sturm. Several Rotarians, aided by high school students, served the meals, cleaned up, all while enjoying music performed by members of the Milford High School band.

This luncheon is one of several projects conducted by the Milford Rotary club throughout the year. Others include the annual Christmas Trees sale, local swim meet, the Pancake Breakfast in September. These projects, and others, help the club to collect and disperse approximately $100,000 annually to area needs.
