Rotarian Chuck Simpson Honored
Wednesday November 13th was an extra special day at the Milford Rotary Club including a club history lesson and a Paul Harris Fellow presentation.
Monadnock Rotarian and Milford/Amherst native Chuck Simpson was our guest speaker. In addition to being the owner of the award winning Simpson Landscape Company in Dublin, Chuck is a Past President of the Monadnock Rotary Club. His topic was the history, development and construction of Milford’s Rotary Centennial Park. Did you know there are 20,000 bricks in the park?
Working with the original Park Committee (Al Blastos, Betsey White, Cy Thibault, Colleen Moynihan, Mike Ciardelli and the late George Infanti) Chuck was instrumental in the design and construction of the park. Together they took a dilapidated tennis court area and turned it into a gorgeous park that has become a focal point in Milford’s downtown neighborhood.
The original goal was to raise $225,000 for the park’s construction. Did you know that the committee raised close to $250,000 for the park providing for several years worth of maintenance funding? As Chuck noted many in-kind donations and some gentle arm twisting by the likes of George Infanti and Al Blastos brought the park construction in at about $100,000 less than general market rates.
To honor his outstanding work as a Rotarian and his ongoing dedication to the Milford Rotary Centennial Park, Chuck was presented with his first Paul Harris Fellow by Milford Rotarian Colleen Moynihan (pictured above). Bravo Chuck!
