The Souhegan EarlyAct club is up and running in Amherst thanks to Rotarian Claudine Hessmer-Husainy. The students are working on a Peace & Diversity video project in which they explore their views on peace and will be including interviews, poetry, art and other media. Claudine has arranged for an exchange between the Souhegan EarlyActers and an EarlyAct Club in Lahore, Pakistan.

Peace and Understanding Writing Project is expanding! This is an exchange project that Claudine initiated last year as part of the Pakistan trip spearheaded by club members. In addition to a 4th grade class at Amherst’s Wilkins School, a 7th grade class at Amherst Middle School has joined the project along with about 100 students from Peshawar, Pakistan. The goal is to increase peace and understanding through the exchange of letters, videos, and messages between the students.

Claudine reports that after talking with Past DG Rick Manganello, it looks like her Peace and Understanding Writing Project could become the model for an international New Generations pilot program targeted to high school-aged students. Bravo Claudine!
