NOVEMBER is Rotary Foundation Month
Posted by David G. Sturm
At its core, Rotary is a service organization. In 1917 an endowment fund was proposed within Rotary International and set up "for the purpose of doing good in the world." Made a distinct entity in 1928 and renamed the Rotary Foundation (TRF), it has received contributions totaling more than $1 billion since the first donation of $26.50 in 1917. Providing scholarships and grants for students and university teachers, grants and awards for technical training and funds to help combat hunger and provide clean water throughout the world, have all been objectives of Rotary and TRF. With the threat of polio still looming over parts of the world, Rotary and its global partners, including the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, are committed to inoculate every child with a polio vaccine and eradicate this disease worldwide.
