Milford businessman and Bedford resident, David Hammer was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow at a recent meeting of the Milford Rotary Club. This honor acknowledged Hammer’s financial contribution to the Rotary Foundation, and highlighted his contributions to the Milford Rotary Club and community service work. Named for the founder of Rotary International, the Paul Harris Fellow is one of the most prestigious honors presented by Rotary.

In making the presentation, Milford Rotary President Ryan Hansen noted that Hammer and his employees at Contemporary Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep in Milford were instrumental in the success of the Hurricane Irene Relief campaign organized by Rotary District 7870.

Among his many contributions as a Milford Rotarian, Hammer was a key member of the team that helped make the 100 Holes of Golf in One Day Tournament a premier event among the many charity golf tournaments held locally each year.

As part of his personal efforts to support life-saving cancer research and treatment, Hammer has been a regular cycling participant in the Pan Mass Challenge where 100% of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to the Jimmy Fund.

The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world. The mission of the Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. For example, the Foundation supports humanitarian and educational initiatives including Polio Plus, a program designed to eradicate polio worldwide, Youth and Group Study Exchange programs that provide opportunities for educational and cultural exchange, and grants to fund local and district service projects.

Neither contributions to the Rotary Foundation nor participation in community service work are done for the recognition. They are made from commitment to the ideals of Rotary.  The symbolism in a Paul Harris Fellow award is to say thank you to the recipient for making a difference in their club and community and in the lives of less fortunate people in the world.

David Hammer’s participation and accomplishments reflect the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”. For more information about the Milford Rotary Club and how to join this dynamic group of community volunteers, please visit www.MilfordNHRotary.org.
