Despite the raindrops and overcast sky, Milford Rotarians put on a fine feast for our Senior neighbors with a lot of great help from some of our younger friends!

Despite the raindrops and overcast sky, Milford Rotarians put on a fine feast for our Senior neighbors. From set-up, through kitchen and parking duty, to clean-up Rotarians pitched in to extend a warm welcome to our guests and make this an enjoyable event for all. The valiant team of Master Rotarian Chefs cooked up some 340 split broilers. We hope they didn't need to raid President-elect Julie's hen house to get so many pieces of fowl. Our intrepid leaders, Seth and Chris, estimated that nearly 300 Seniors were served a wonderful lunch. Guests came from all over the Souhegan Valley including Milford, Amherst, Wilton, Mont Vernon and Lyndeborough, and it was standing room only at the Boys and Girls Club.
Once again, Lesli Rendell and her team of Souhegan students provided invaluable assistance manning the serving the trays, tending the beverages and helping out wherever needed. Thank-you Les and Team Souhegan for all you did to make this a very successful luncheon. Over the years, the Senior BBQ has become a very intergenerational community service event!
The 2011 BBQ got a technology boost thanks to the FIRST Robotics Mechanical Mayhem Team 1519. The students demonstrated their fascinating robot and provided some fun entertainment during the lunch. The Team 1519 parents were a tremendous help doing "umbrella duty" and assisting our guests through the raindrops. Incidentally, the MRC has been helping to sponsor Team 1519 for three years.
For those of you who couldn't make it on Wednesday, have no fear there is a barbecued chicken event in your future! Prez-elect Julie was overheard planning the 34th annual Senior Citizens' Chicken BBQ even before the tables and chairs were put away. On a final note, Team Captain and Master Chef Seth Zeigler has elected to pass the drumstick. Thank you Seth for your many years of fine flock leadership!
