We have come up with a fundraiser that will provide a service to our community and some $$$ for our charitable giving. On Saturday October 10, we will host an Electronics Recycling Fundraiser from 8 AM to 12 PM in the Alvirne High School Parking Lot. Anything electronic!

Sponsors & Speakers Appreciation Evening

Posted by Chris Madden on Mar 08, 2019
We thanked our sponsors and speakers on Tuesday March 5, with a reception held at the Thompson Center at Presentation of Mary Academy. Over the past 2 years, our club has benefited from the donations made by businesses and individuals who donated to sponsor our major fundraisers, the Spring Forward Trail Run and the Pancake Breakfast. With their help, we gave out scholarships and donated to several local charities. We also had some really interesting & inspiring speakers. Our Appreciation evening thanked them all for helping the Hudson-Litchfield Rotary continue its mission of "Service Above Self." In attendance in addition to our sponsors and speakers were Rotary District Governor Venu Rao, and Area Governor Maureen Mooney.

Hudson-Litchfield Rotary Celebrates 47th Anniversary of Charter

Hudson-Litchfield Rotary Celebrates 47th Anniversary of Charter
At its regular meeting on Thursday December 20, 2018,  members of the Hudson-Litchfield Rotary Club celebrated the 47th Anniversary of “Charter Day” for the Hudson Rotary Club. Chartered on December 17, 1971, the Hudson Club subsequently expanded in 1986 to become the current Hudson-Litchfield Rotary Club. The Club was honored to have two guests who were instrumental in the establishment the Club's establishment in 1971, Peter Dolloff and Jack Atkinson.
Peter Dolloff was a Charter Member of the Hudson Rotary.  At the time, he served as Superintendent of Schools for Hudson.  He spoke about the other Charter Members, their businesses, and the early history of the Club.  In the early years, the club rotated (harking back to the origin of the name “Rotary”) among several locations. That tradition continued, with a change of venues every couple of years. Peter remembered the types of service projects the Rotary supported in those early years, such as the development of Merrifield Park, working to eliminate Polio through the Rotary “Polio Plus” program, painting the Hills House, working to eradicate hunger, providing scholarships to graduating seniors, and support for the Salvation Army.  The latter three continue to this day to be supported by the Club.
Early fundraisers included a Carnival, yard sales, Bingo at the Kiwanis Hall, and a Tennis Tournament which was held for 7 or 8 years. Peter also shared stories of episodes of fellowship at various functions and stories of visits to other clubs. Peter served two terms as President, 1993-1994 and again in 1998-1999.
Jack Atkinson was President of the Nashua Rotary at the time and was given a challenge by Mr. Ed Fitch (known as “Mister Rotary”) at the District level to help establish three new clubs: Hudson, Nashua-West, and Merrimack.  Jack got a service project going to spark interest in potential members.  They selected high school students who participated in a “Junior Achievement” style business and helped support them. Jack noted with pride how successful and business-like the students were.
Jack served as sponsor of the Hudson Club at its Charter Night Dinner on February 17, 1972 in Nashua, where the Charter was presented by the District Governor to the first President of Hudson Rotary, John R. Sarris.  As per the program of that night, Jack provided the Closing Address to the Charter Night Dinner.
The current members of Hudson-Litchfield Rotary warmly welcomed their guests and appreciated their comments on the origin and early history of the Club.

Hudson-Litchfield Rotary Celebrates Rotary Week

Posted on Nov 01, 2018
Governor Chris Sununu designated the week of October 22-28 as Rotary International Week to honor and recognize the work of  Rotarians in New Hampshire. Rotary District 7870 Governor Venu Rao noted “Hundreds of Rotarians in both [Vermont and New Hampshire] have had a lasting impact in their respective communities in 2017-2018, contributing over $2 million into the towns and cities in which they serve. Rao called on the District's Rotary Clubs to hold celebratory meetings and to invite local elected officials to a meeting so that they could see the impact their local Club has on their community first hand.
The Hudson-Litchfield Rotary held its special weekly meeting in the evening at the Rodgers Memorial Library on Thursday October 25. Club members were joined by several local elected officials and one Fire Chief, Litchfield Fire Chief Frank Fraitzl. President Jack Madden gave a presentation which highlighted the Hudson-Litchfield Club's history, fundraisers, and the Club's contributions to the community both through donations and volunteer hours.
About the Hudson-Litchfield Rotary Club, President Madden said, "We are a small, but mighty club. Each year we donate almost 450 hours of service, $5000 in scholarships for graduating seniors at Alvirne and Campbell High Schools, and money or in kind donations to several local charities including Anne Marie House, Humane Society for Greater Nashua, Make-a-Wish New Hampshire, Friends of Benson Park, St. John XXIII food pantry and Christmas Adopt a Family, and Salvation Army bell-ringing."  "This year," Madden went on to say, "the Club also donated to an international project, the Kisumu Kenya Safe Water Project for individual household water purification."
On display at the gathering was a copy of Governor Sununu's Proclamation, the Club's charter, a list of Charter Members, friendship banners old and current, and other memorabilia. Also on display was this year's Hudson-Litchfield Rotary Christmas Ornament which features the wooden soldiers in Library Park.
After the presentation, the members and their guests enjoyed a delicious dinner and lots of conversation. The elected officials learned about the Hudson-Litchfield Rotary Club, and the club members learned more about our lawmakers and the issues facing State and Local government.
