Hollis Brookline Rotary Sponsors R.A.D. Program
Funds Equipment to Support Women's Self-Defense Classes

Hollis Police Officer Rick Bergeron, the Resource Officer for both Hollis-Brookline Cooperative District School System and Hollis District School System, has volunteered to teach the women-only R.A.D (Rape Aggression Defense) Program to female students from both school districts and members of the general public .

The largest women's self-defense training program in the country, R.A.D. has developed specialized simulation techniques and equipment for use by certified R.A.D. Instructors. Officer Bergeron needs this equipment to teach the Program. The Hollis-Brookline Rotary Club has awarded the Hollis Police Department $3500.00 to purchase the necessary equipment.

The goal of R.A.D. is to provide realistic self-defense options to women, regardless of their level of physical conditioning. Participants at all levels of ability, age, experience, and strength will be provided with techniques and information that can be effectively used from the first day of the class. R.A.D. is not a martial arts program, nor does it require participants to be athletes in training to succeed.
