Program
Michael Cain the Fire Chief of the Grimsby Fire Department.  The Grimsby Fire Department was founded in 1879 and continues as a Volunteer fire department.
He explained that even though the members here are volunteers they are well trained professional firefighters.  Larger municipalities have fire departments that are staffed by career firefighters.  The volunteer fire protection gives the taxpayers a substantial saving.

We naturally associate the fire service with emergency response but training and education are equally important functions.

Michael reminded us that smoke alarms and an exit plan are very important because modern home construction and furnishings allows fire to spread rapidly.  It is also an important responsibility to make overnight guests aware of the exit plan.

To service the growth in our community he talked about the future needs of the Grimsby Fire Department.  There are plans underway to expand the present fire station, Station 1.  An updated station on the escarpment is needed to serve the community there.   A dedicated
training area should be constructed on the Calder property. Michael also foresees the need for a third station in the west end of Grimsby.
