Gail Miller - Coming Alive at 55

RCHP had the pleasure of hearing Gail Miller, a woman of great compassion and dedication to assisting people facing difficulties and transitions in their life, tell how she dealt with staggering tragedy and now provides support to others in similar situations.

Gail, a Counsellor, Author, works part time at Palliative Care SA and AirB&B host, set the scene by relating some of the major issues that she had faced and overcome in her life, including her mother's vehicle accident injuries and later illness, a miscarriage and the loss of a daughter at a young age.

Gail has a great affection for the Rotary movement because the Rotary Club of Dubbo provided great assistance following a vehicle accident in which her mother lost a leg near Dubbo, NSW.

At the age of 55, some years ago, she decided that she had a contribution to make based on her life experiences through publishing books designed to assist those suffering loss and depression. Driven by her mantra 'Age is just a number. Attitude is everything!'  Gail, who has handled more grief than could reasonably be expected, has overcome fear of public speaking to share her thoughts and processes through books and speaking.

Following the difficulties Gail encountered to enroll her mother in a nursing home, she wrote "5 Easy Ways to Solve the Aged Care Puzzle", an easy 1-hour read introducing the five professionals who can ease the agony and aid the process of transitioning from home or hospital to Aged Care.

Gail Miller's books include

"Staying Alive at 55" about remaining positive in the face of adversity
"What we're Wheelie like" addressing disability, difference and inclusion
"Unscrambling Grief"  about hope and life after grief
