"Second Chances SA" and RYPEN Student presentation

There was a good attendance at yesterday's meeting at the Goody to hear Fiona MacFadyen on the non-profit, volunteer "Second Chances SA" and Ryan Hornett, RYPEN Student. Sandy Matz introduced Fiona (photo at left) who then detailed the important role of Second Chances in providing support to children whose parents are in prison or otherwise suffering extreme disadvantage with the objective of creating a better future for them.

The Organisation, which received a Gold Award in 2017 from the Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Association, seeks to provide a normalised life for prisoners' kids (PK's), by providing access to food, clothing and equipment so that they can be better accepted in their schools and related activities.

Second Chances SA is funded by tax deductible donations and a Furniiture Warehouse that receives pre-loved, good quality furniture, mattresses, whitegoods, or household items for sale or distribution to needy families. Call 8352 7722 to arrange a collection time. The Op Shop accepts and sells or distributes women's, men's and children's clothing, shoes, bric-a-brac, crockery, kitchen utensils, small electrical items, bedding and children's toys. The shop is located at 397 Diagonal Road, Sturt, and can be contacted on 8296 5588.

These included dancing to the band "Ewe Calyptus", presentations by various speakers, on life experiences, healthy versus non-healthy relationships and public speaking. Other activities include workshops on teamwork, mind skills and team building, Other discussions included topics such as global warming, petrol pricing.

Ryan presented a report (click "READ MORE" below for photo) to the meeting that concluded:

RYPEN was an amazing experience. I really enjoyed myself. So many great speakers and the staff were amazing, friendly and a real joy to be around. I loved making new friends, learning new skills and seeing everyone have fun. I have made some great friendships through RYPEN that will surely be lifelong.
I will be telling all my friends about the camp and recommending it to them.

I would like to say a huge thank you for all for sponsoring me and giving me this amazing opportunity and the chance to learn new lifelong skills and to connect with these amazing people at RYPEN.
