Ryan Steen is a 2000 graduate of the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He owns Frey Pet Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA where his primary focus is orthopedic surgery. Dr. Steen has served as President of the Eastern Iowa Veterinary Association and as President of the Iowa Veterinary Association, which boasts over 2,000 member veterinarians. Dr. Steen lives just outside of Mt. Vernon with his wife Angie and his 3 daughters.
We learned many interesting veterinary facts from Dr. Steen, including the presence of a massive veterinary shortage, the pandemic induced spike in pet ownership, and as a result – wait times and closures have increased. Also, he discussed the challenge of getting into vet school and the related debt.
