Shelterbox Assists Pakistan

The United Nations estimates that more than twenty million Pakistani people are affected by the flooding; exceeding the combined total of individuals affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2007 Myanmar Cyclone and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

The need in Pakistan could not be greater and the response from ShelterBox was immediate.

Within 48 hours of the first outbreak of flooding, 1,000 families were sheltered in ShelterBox disaster relief tents.

Millions are homeless, without clean drinking water, and the risks from those two factors alone are massive.

A simple thing like a tent can mean the difference between life or death and a water filtration system will stop waterborne diseases in their tracks.

ShelterBox has committed emergency shelter for more than 61,000 people to Pakistan as well as water purification for 20,000 families.

HAITI

Continuing Need in Haiti Commands ShelterBox Attention

• Through ongoing partnerships with Handicap International, French Red Cross, International Organization for Migration and the Jenkins/Penn Haiti Relief Organization, ShelterBox is continuing to provide shelter and essential equipment to survivors of the earthquake that devastated Haiti in January.
• More than 27,000 ShelterBoxes have been deployed, and our ShelterBox Response Teams are "embedded" with partner organizations to assist in distributing ShelterBoxes and training local citizens in erecting tents and using equipment.

Haiti Orphans Remain Upbeat Despite T ragedy

ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) member Jodie Hurt (UK) visited the orphanage on her deployment to Haiti earlier this summer. 

"I was taken aback by the happiness of the children," said Hurt. "They were singing, dancing, just full of smiles. I asked myself, 'How could this be after losing their parents, their communities and going through one of the worst ever disasters?' I was amazed and it's a struggle to find the words to describe their courage."
