Ribbon Cutting May 20th
Sometimes it takes a little incentive. A collaboration between the Jane Boyd Community House and the Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club has been designed to motivate kids to participate in more focused activities and have a safe place to gather.
On Tuesday, May 18th at 5:00 p.m. leaders from the two groups will reveal an Incentive Room with hand-painted murals, new furniture, a pool and foosball table, movie projector, board games and video gaming systems. It's something that will keep kids focused and engaged.
"Many times it has been said that 'it takes a village' and this project proves that with true collaboration children are the ones who benefit" says Amy Grunewaldt, Executive Director of Jane Boyd Community House.
The Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary volunteers worked over 20 hours for multiple nights and weekends to make this happen. The room is an extension of out-of-school time programming offered at Jane Boyd, which teaches youth that hard work and positive behavior creates opportunities and privileges.
Jane Boyd has offeredyouth development opportunities through its collaborations with community partners for almost 90 years. These partnerships are more important now than ever with the current economy, increase in poverty and number of at-risk children living in the Jane Boyd Community House neighborhood.
