Presidential Citation Opportunity

The Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary club is striving to achieve a Presidential Citation from Rotary International. The award is based on varying criteria each year, set by the Rotary International President. This year the criteria will challenge us to live up to not only the goals of Rotary International, but internal goals we set for our own club.
To stress the importance of both membership and continued support of The Rotary Foundation, President Kalyan Banerjee has established criteria that support the priorities and goals identified within the RI Strategic Plan: strengthen clubs, increase humanitarian service, and enhance public image. Both a membership and foundation requirement must be met this year in order to receive the Presidential Citation.
Criteria Includes:
1. Minimum net increase of one member AND an 85% minimum member retention rate.
2. Achieve two of the following four components
a. 2% increase in qualified women
b. 2% increase in qualified younger professionals (under age of 45)
c. Induction of one or more RI program alumni
d. Increase diversity (classification, gender, age)
3. 100% Annual Programs Fund participation (every active member personally contributes some amount between July 1, 2011 and March 31, 2012)
4. Minimum per capital giving of $100 to the Annual Programs Fund
Our club will have no problem reaching criteria 1, 2, and 4. Our membership growth has been strong in this Rotary year and our giving to the foundation should come close to averaging $100/member. The challenge will be criteria #3 which requires every member to participate at any dollar amount in giving to the Annual Programs Fund. All contributions made to the annual fund are spent on Rotary programs both here in the United States and around the world. The Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club has become more active in several of these programs which means a portion of this money directly benefits our club. Rotary International has a goal of raising $104 million to fund it's ongoing programs and the Annual Fund this year.
As presented earlier in the month, one of this year's club goals is to "Recognize the Value of Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY). " EREY is an annual initiative that encourages every Rotarian to contribute in some way to the foundation. The dollar amount is not relevant. Please consider contributing to the Foundation through its Annual Programs Fund. Every dollar counts. To contribute, go to rotary.org and establish an account in the "member access" area OR email erikmiles@mchsi.com and simply state the dollar amount you would like to contribute.
