As we begin a new Rotary year and celebrate the Magic of Rotary, District Rotary Foundation Chair Michelle Bell encourages members to consider increasing their personal Foundation giving by 10% over last year and to explore opportunities for greater involvement in Foundation activities and district committees.
Michelle also shared a brief history of The Rotary Foundation. It began in 1917 when Rotary President Arch Klumph proposed creating an endowment fund to "do good in the world." The first contribution was $26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City, and the Foundation awarded its first grant in 1930 to the International Society for Crippled Children, later known as Easter Seals.
In exciting local news, Cedar Rapids Daybreak Rotary has received approval for a Global Grant. Members are also encouraged to read updates from District 5970 Global Scholars Ashton and Kate, who are currently studying in the United Kingdom. Link for Ashton Link for Kate
