As previewed, the meeting served as a “Rotary archaeology” session, blending history, storytelling, and humor. Longtime members Tom Barnes and Erik Miles opened the club’s metaphorical “sarcophagus” to share artifacts, traditions, and memorable stories.

- The Marion Rotary Club, chartered in April 1969, evolved from a “makeup club” into a vibrant, independent service organization.
- Earlier Rotary expectations included strict attendance requirements and traveling to other clubs to maintain participation.
- Growth in the region expanded Rotary from just a few clubs to many across the Cedar Rapids metro area.
Signature Service Projects
- About 25 years ago, the club was challenged to create a hands-on service initiative.
