2012-2013 Year End

Please help me congratulate Nick Glew, Marion-East CR Rotarian of the Year along with Sarah Pinion who received the Jack Hotchkiss Service Above Self Award at our year end celebration.  Erik Miles +3 and Al Beach +1  were presented their Paul Harris Fellow Awards by District Foundation Chair Doug Laird.  Also receiving Paul Harris Fellow Awards for their work on the Marion Rotary Marathon for Shoes were committee members Cody Crawford, Sarah Pinion and Patty Webster.  

Congratulations and thanks to Michelle Bell for a great 2012-2013 Rotary year!  Michelle, her board and their committees oversaw a very busy and productive year.  Highlights include the Instillation of District Governor Dr. Jill Olsen and hosting the Rotary 5970 District conference.  The club organized major fund raisers including the Theatre CR event, Annual Waffle Breakfast with silent auction and of course the Inaugural Marathon.  

Marion-East CR Rotary sponsored Linn-Mar's Matt Wheaton study abroad trip to Belgium, and hosted Jon Ederra from Spain who attended Linn-Mar.  We also participated in the Adopt a Family program helping families with gifts during the Holidays.  Several of us enjoyed fellowship as we cleaned three miles of Highway 13 and 151.  We now own that corner of Marion! 

Our members received many awards this Rotary year.  Highlights include Michelle being named a semi-finalist for the Rockwell Collins Volunteer of the Year and Tom Barnes representing all of us at the White House in April where he was awarded the Champions of Change Award for the Shoes for Kids campaign.  Our "signature program" has now fitted kids with almost 2,800 pairs of shoes.  Marion-East was also presented the Presidential Citation and the District Governor's Excellence Award.  

With all of your enthusiast support I look forward to another amazing year for Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary!
