A major activity of the Marion-East Cedar Rapids Rotary Club is its shoe project, "Shoes for Kids." The club raises money to provide school nurses in the Cedar Rapids/Marion metropolitan area the ability to directly help kids. School nurses identify students who are in need and who may not have the ability to wear adequate shoes to school. Payless Shoe Source provides the Marion - East CR Rotary Club with cards that are brought to a Payless Shoe Source store by the child and their parent or guardian. They exchange their card for shoes up to $20 in price. Money raised by the club pays for the shoe cards with a discount provided by Payless Shoe Source.

The program began with the 2003-2004 school year with Marion area schools and expanded to the entire Cedar Rapids area in the Fall of 2004.

The need is great and kids who are able to wear shoes that are in good shape have one less thing to worry about as they receive a great education.Image
