Welcome to September and Basic Education and Literacy Month! Kris and I will be meeting with our new Interact Advisor at Buena High School, Jessica Casteneda. If you have some Mondays to work with the Interact Club, please let Kris know. We are looking for 2 - 3 members who can take on the task of being club advisors to Interact.

We held our social at the Ventura Chamber Taste event this past Thursday. I think I managed to say hello to everyone who came, but it was pretty awesome to look around the event and see Rotarians everywhere!!! Stepahnie Caldwell, CEO/President of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce also loved our participation in the event and has offered us the same deal for next year!

Over the weekend, Rosandra and I attended the Rubicon Theater's opening of "I Dig Rock & Roll Music". If you liked the "songs of protest and passion" of the music from the mid '60's to early '80's then this is the show for you. What Rosandra and I really liked about the show, besides the music, was the history behind the songs that the cast gave. Truly brought new meaning to music I liked already. This show will be running through September 16th. A special thank you to Amber Landis-Stover for getting us these tickets!

Our speaker for this week will be Michael Byrne talking about the Didgeridoo. If you want to know what the Didgeridoo is, watch Crocodile Dundee! This should be an interesting program to hear. The following week will be a craft talk from Amber Landis-Stover!

Yours in Rotary Service,

NOT SO SILENT CORNER

In the animal world, don’t be a RINO!

Do you know what a RINO is? Do you know what Knife & Forkers are? It’s Rotary lingo for people who don’t embody the Rotarian way of being. I am not a Rotarian. I am the wife of a Rotarian. The point of my writing to you each week, is to give you a glimpse into the life of a spouse/partner of the President so that you know what it takes to keep your club going. What does this mean this year? It means inviting non-stop to your meetings, setting up Sip & Sees, it means helping with large projects like Human Trafficking, it means taking out an hour of my busy day as a business owner and making flower arrangements. Think about it. Someone who is not a Rotarian has probably logged in more hours doing community work than a RINO or a Knife & Forker. I challenge each of you to come out and work along side me. Help me change the perception that Rotary is boring and that it is meant for those who are retired.
