 Last week's meeting was one that I look forward to every year. It is so inspirational to see the enthusiasm of the Job Shadow participants after spending the morning seeing what their potential future could look like. Thank you to Bill Spellman for organizing the Job Shadow and thank you to Rich Stewart and Harriet Clune for driving the students to and from the Rubicon Theater. We will also have a group touring CMH at a later date.
This past Saturday, Rich Stewart, Harriet Clune, Jeff Burgh, Bill Hicks, Cal Magrot, Rosandra and I spent a few hours out at the Surfrider Foundation's Beach Clean-up. The weather was absolutely perfect and the beach was actually a lot cleaner then I expected it to be.
This weekend brings us the District Training Assembly. If you are going to be on Jeff Burgh's Board next year or if you are a member who wants to learn more, you need to come to the Assembly. Just a quick story, but when I first joined Rotary, Carol Marquez came to me and said "You really need to go to the District Assembly and learn more about what the board and Rotary does." So I did and the rest is, as they say, history. I met people there that to this day are friends and it's nice to know if I visit another club or go to a district event that I will know people there. And that all started by Carol inviting me to attend just to find out what's going on. So, here is my invitation to you...come to the District Training Assembly and learn something you didn't know before and meet some really great people!
Also this weekend, after the District Training Assembly, is our Jigsaw Puzzle Challenge at the Ventura Family YMCA. Put together a team of 4 and for a $40 donation you can find out if you and your team are the best Puzzle Assemblers in Ventura, or not!
The Rotary Club of Ventura turns 100 this year and will be having a 100 Year celebration on May 4th. We will also be celebrating the opening of Rotary Plaza that afternoon.
I invite all of you to come and support our events and do the good things in our community that we love to do.
Don't forget about the "Forty Days - Forty Items" challenge. Starting on March 6th we are challenging you to remove one item from your closet that you no longer use or wear. At the end of the forty days either donate the items to a non-profit of your choice or bring your bag to the club and we will donate the items to a non-profit who can use the items. I know Rosandra and I will be participating and I trust many of our club members will also.
