NOT SO SILENT CORNER

Time flies when you are having fun!

I was told at PETS that as a partner of the President that his year would go by fast. I should have believed it. The year was laid out and I thought we had plenty of time to do everything he set out to do, after all we had 12 months to do it in.

If you will recall, one of the goals Jeff had for his year was to launch a program that is aligned with Rotary International’s focus on Human Trafficking. I helped Soroptomist of Ventura launch a program a few years back and I am very excited to help Jeff this year. Human Trafficking is something that affects us all and it is something that is happening in our own neighborhoods. We are going to work with a committee of volunteers, who want to roll up their sleeves and bring attention to this very disturbing cause. What should we do? Who should be involved? Where should the program beheld? When? All good questions. If you want to join us as we launch this project, let us know!

President's Message
Jeff Hata

It's staying dark later into the morning, the terrible heat we had the last month seems to be backing off, kids are back in school, Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes (YUCK!) are back, so what does this all mean? It means that fall is quickly coming and the holidays are not far behind. It also means our Nightmare on the Hill fundraiser is coming up in just 2 short months. I asked at the last meeting for our members to start looking for raffle prize items for Nightmare on the Hill. Visit businesses you know and make the ask for a raffle prize item. We have moved Nightmare up one week earlier so hopefully we do not run into the World Series this year. We really do need all members to help and participate in this event so get ready...Nightmare on the Hill is coming!

We will be dark this week and will be celebrating at the Ventura Chamber TASTE event. We will be dark and holding a social in months where there are 5 Thursdays. This is the first one for the year. We had 23 members sign up to come to this social along with their friends and families. I look forward to seeing a lot of you Thursday evening at the Museum of Ventura County.

Our speaker for the first meeting in September will be Michael Byrne and he will be talking about the Didgeridoo. What's that you ask? We may have to ask Bruce McGee to tell us about the Didgeridoo at the next meeting. The following meeting Joe Strohman will be interviewing Amber Landis-Stover from the Rubicon Theater.

Have a safe Labor Day weekend and I look forward to seeing many of your at TASTE.

The MINIMUM you accept is the MAXIMUM you can expect.

Yours in Rotary Service,
Jeff Hata
