About the Perspectives on Peace Scholarship

The Rotary Club of Ventura Foundation is pleased to support this scholarship program for an eighth year. This scholarship is open to graduating seniors in the class of 2026 within the Ventura Unified School District and who will be attending college (community college, four-year undergraduate, etc.) or an advanced vocational/technical/art school are eligible. This scholarship will focus on peace, one of the areas of focus for Rotary International.  Peace can be defined as an environment that supports equality and justice for all. An initiative for peace can be anything that supports the human condition, for example, the need for food, water, shelter, health care, literacy, jobs, and human rights.
 
All forms are Art are accepted, including (but not limited to) painting, drawing, sketching, mixed media, sculpting or other method that involves creating shapes on a surface; photography; video; and music.

One (1) Submission per Student
 
Art Submissions
Art projects can include any painting, drawing, sketching, mixed media, sculpting or other method that involves creating shapes on a surface.

Provide your submission to your school’s lead Art Teacher by the entry deadline of April 9, 2026. Photography or digital art should be printed (size and format of your choosing.) Ventura Rotary will collect the submission(s) from your school.
 
Your application form should be submitted online by April 9, 2026 before 11:59 PM. Provide a description of your piece up to 400 words (on application form).  
 
Photography Submissions
Photography projects can include any type of photography. You are allowed to submit up to six images. Please supply a release form for anyone in your photos..

Provide your submission to your school’s lead Art Teacher by the entry deadline of April 9, 2026. Photography should be printed (size and format of your choosing.) Ventura Rotary will collect the submission(s) from your school.
 
Your application form should be submitted online by April 9, 2026 before 11:59 PM. Provide a description of your submission up to 400 words (on application form).  
 
Video Submissions
You must have written, directed and edited the video. The video must be at least 2-minutes but less than 8-minutes in length. If the video is not in English, then subtitles in English are required. Any actors or outside help must be credited in the work. Please supply a release form for any non-actors.

Provide your submission (.MP4 file type preferred, .MOV also accepted) on a jump drive to your school’s lead Art Teacher by the entry deadline of April 9, 2026. Ventura Rotary will collect the submission(s) from your school. OR, provide a download link (like Dropbox) on the submission form. Make sure any download link is shared with our email address: perspectivesonpeace@gmail.com. You may choose to also upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo and provide link to the video on the submission form.
 
Any music you use in your video (not required, by the way) must either be in the public domain, original music (made by you), or used with permission.
 
Your application form should be submitted online by April 9, 2026 before 11:59 PM. Provide a description of your submission up to 400 words (on application form).
 
Music Submissions
Music projects can include any type of music that you create and record. The piece should be at least 2-minutes but shorter than 8-minutes in length. You can choose whether or not to also sing. You must have written the lyrics and music, produced the song and any band members must be credited on the submission form.
 
Provide your submission (.MP3 file type for music, and separate lyrics file if appropriate) on a jump drive to your school’s lead Art Teacher by the entry deadline of April 9, 2026. Ventura Rotary will collect the submission(s) from your school. OR, provide a download link (like Dropbox) on the submission form. You may also upload your music file to SoundCloud and provide link on your submission form. Be sure any download link is shared with our email address: perspectivesonpeace@gmail.com. If your piece has lyrics, please submit the lyrics as well.

Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be graduating high school seniors from one of the following high schools: Ventura, Buena, Foothill Tech, Pacific, El Camino
And will be attending college (community college, four-year undergraduate, etc.) or an advanced vocational/technical/art school.
Privacy:
By submitting your work, you agree that we may display the project on our websites, including, but not limited to photos, links, videos, etc.  No other personal contact information will be used without explicit permission obtained beforehand via email.
Choosing A Winner:
Submissions will be evaluated by our judges only after all submissions have been received by the April 9, 2026 deadline. The judges will include members of the Rotary Club of Ventura as well as community members in the fields of art, photography, music or video.
Award Distribution:
The awarded entrants will, upon verification of eligibility criteria as described above, receive their one-time scholarship disbursement in the form of a check from the Rotary Club of Ventura Foundation.
Awardees will be recognized and celebrated at the Rotary Club of Ventura awards luncheon on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Awardees’ families are also invited to the luncheon.
