Wheelchairs have been delivered to individuals in need in Puerto Vallarta.

Reporting from Puerto Vallarta, Luz Maria Ortiz-Smith shared an encouraging update on the continued impact of this long-standing service project. Over the course of several years, four containers of wheelchairs have been delivered to individuals in need, most recently, a shipment of 280 wheelchairs. Additional distributions are already being planned to reach nearby communities.

This project has taken an important step forward in supporting long-term health and independence. Our partners, the Rotary Club of Puerto Vallarta Sur, have entered into a new agreement with RESAD, a dedicated group of physiotherapists, to provide training and education for both wheelchair recipients and their caregivers. This guidance focuses on proper mobility techniques, helping prevent injuries and ensuring safe, effective use of the equipment.

In addition, RESAD is offering no-cost physiotherapy services to beneficiaries. These services are designed to help individuals regain strength and function in areas affected by limb loss or other health conditions.

This collaboration represents a meaningful evolution of the project, combining the gift of mobility with the knowledge and care needed to sustain it. It is a powerful example of Rotary’s commitment to creating lasting, life-changing impact in the communities we serve.
