Sunrisers came out on the fourth for a fun night of food, friendship, and fireworks! Thank you, Diana Washburn, for hosting the event at her wonderful lower Riviera home with killer views of the fireworks.
Thank you Judith McCaffrey for repairing our club banner! The bottom right corner of the banner was torn off in storage. Judith not only expertly repaired the corner but also painstakingly removed glue that was also on the bottom. Thank you, Judith!
WELCOME, CARPINTERIA SUNSET!
Welcome to the newest club in District 5240, the Rotary Club of Carpinteria Sunset! Their charter night was held on July 6th with 20 charter members at the beach front home of Betty Brown. Our own David Velarde was very instrumental in the formulation of this new club in Group 8. They will meet twice a month for dinner and a program, on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Location TBD.
During the month of July, our weekly happy hour will be held at Concerts in the Park at Chase Palm Park. This Thursday, July 14th (6-8:30 p.m.) features the Deanna Bogart Band, blues fusion with boogie-woogie piano, soulful saxophone, and smoky vocals.
Judith McCaffrey has generously invited Sunrisers to join her on her famous pink blankets set up in the center lawn section in front of the sound stage. Bring your low back chair, non-alcoholic beverage, and snacks to share. Join us!
Rotary Ladies Night out will be held on Tuesday, July 19th at 6pm at the home of Kathy Scroggs, 549 La Marina on the Mesa. It'll be a game night theme. Kathy is providing Santa Maria Style Barbecue. Lady Rotarians and lady spouses or partners welcome. Sign up to bring a potluck dish at the club meeting or contact Diana Washburn.

One of the most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics in the world is the Rotary “4-Way Test.”
It was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of the Chicago-based Club Aluminum Company, which was facing bankruptcy. Taylor looked for a way to save the struggling company mired in depression-caused financial difficulties. He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives. The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company was credited to this simple philosophy.
Herb Taylor became president of Rotary International during 1954-55. The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than 100 languages and published in thousands of ways.
The message should be known and followed by all Rotarians.
This is one of a series of short articles about Rotary written by Cliff Dochterman, PRIP, and originally published in the Rotary publication, The ABCs of Rotary.
ROTARY PIN CHALLENGE - Week 2
It is week 2 of the Rotary Pin Challenge. How many of you wore your pin every day last week? I have challenged myself to wear my Rotary pin EVERY day. By doing this I hope to raise awareness of Rotary and Rotary's work. I invite all Sunrise Rotarians to join me in wearing a Rotary pin EVERY day.
The pin pictured above was given to me on our pre-convention friendship exchange in South Korea by a Past District Governor of District 3720. The fan dance featured on the pin reminds me of the spectacular fan performance at the Opening Ceremony at the Rotary International Convention in Seoul and the warm hospitality we received from our sister District in Gyeongsang.
