DID YOU KNOW?
After the success of Interact clubs for high school-age youth in the early 1960s, the RI board created Rotaract in 1968. The new organization was designed to promote responsible citizenship and leadership potential in clubs of young men and women aged 18 to 30. The first Rotaract club was chartered by the Rotary Club of Charlotte North in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. Today there are 291,000 members in more than 9,500 Rotaract clubs in 177 countries.
Rotaract clubs emphasize the importance of individual responsibility as the basis of personal success and community involvement. Each club is required to complete at least two major service projects each year, one to serve the community and the other to promote international understanding. Rotaract also provides opportunities leading to greater leadership and professional development. Rotaractors enjoy many social activities as well as programs to improve their community. A Rotaract club can exist only when continuously sponsored, guided and counseled by a Rotary club.
The programs of Rotaract are built around the motto "Fellowship Through Service."

ROTARY PIN CHALLENGE - Week 50
The pink ribbon is the symbol for breast cancer awareness. I wore this pin this weekend at the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event held at Bishop Diego High School in Santa Barbara. I walked in honor of Paul McCaffrey and others who are survivors. I also walked in memory of my nephew Kenji, friend and Rotarian Roxanne Nomura, and friends and family who I’ve lost to cancer.
I have challenged myself to wear my Rotary pin EVERY day. By doing this I hope to raise awareness of Rotary and Rotary's work. I invite all Sunrise Rotarians to join me in wearing a Rotary pin EVERY day.
