TROMBONE SHORTY

Hundreds of Rotarians packed the Arlington Theater on Friday night for the hard-edge, funk, rock, jazz concert by Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue. The energetic concert raised support for PolioPlus.

Several Sunrise Rotarians gathered for a pre-concert dinner.

PINTS FOR POLIO

Sunrise Rotarians came out with pints in hand in support of the Rotary Club of Montecito and polio eradication. Held at the Santa Barbara Brewing Company, the event raised $11,000 (through event revenue and a match from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) for the PolioPlus program, launched by Rotary in 1985. It is the first initiative to tackle global polio eradication through the mass vaccination of children.

ZONE INSTITUTE VOLUNTEERS

Sunriser volunteers assembled information packets, served as greeters, and staffed the check in table at the Zone 25/26 Institute held at Fess Parker's Doubletree Resort this week.

Thank you to all who helped out.

ROTARY SEAT AVAILABLE SUNRISE FOUNDATION

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise Charitable Foundation, we advise every active member of the Club that there is currently an opening available on the Foundation board of directors effective 11/9/2016, because of a member leaving the club unexpectedly.

The Director position available started 7/1/2016 and goes through 6/30/2019, to complete the three year term.  While this continuity is encouraged and expected, there is flexibility.   According to the bylaws, members with three or more years of membership are eligible.

We hold meetings approximately three to five times each year at irregular intervals as needed.  Our responsibilities involve being good stewards to administer the Foundation funds.

Please reply to me, Jody, as Sunrise Foundation President with your interest.

Feel free to call at 963-5109 with questions.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Jody Dolan Holehouse
President, Sunrise Foundation 2015-2017

DID YOU KNOW?

Most Rotarians have never attended a Rotary district conference. They have not experienced one of the most enjoyable and rewarding privileges of Rotary membership. A district conference is for all club members and their spouses, not just for club officers and committee members. The purpose of a district conference is for fellowship, good fun, inspirational speakers and discussion of matters that make one's Rotary membership more meaningful. Every person who attends a district conference finds that being a Rotarian becomes even more rewarding because of the new experiences, insights and acquaintances developed at the conference. Those who attend a conference enjoy going back, year after year.

Everyone of Rotary's more than 525 districts has a conference annually These meetings are considered so important that the Rotary International president selects a knowledgeable Rotarian as his personal representative to attend and address each conference. The program always includes several outstanding entertainment features, interesting discussions and inspirational programs.

This is one of a series of short articles about Rotary written by Cliff Dochterman, PRIP, and originally published in the Rotary publication, The ABCs of Rotary.
ROTARY PIN CHALLENGE - Week 20

My pretty dragonfly pin puts me in a good mood. I first admired this pin on PDG Jane McClenahan. Seeing it (and her) made me happy. So, the next time I was at a Rotary function where pins were sold I looked for this dragonfly pin for my collection.

I have challenged myself to wear my Rotary pin EVERY day. By doing this I hope to raise awareness of Rotary and Rotary's work. I invite all Sunrise Rotarians to join me in wearing a Rotary pin EVERY day.
