CAMP WHITTIER WORK CONTINUES

Work continued at Camp Whittier on Saturday, March 18 to stripe the sports court. Tom Heath lead a group of volunteers taping guide lines and painting the court for tennis. Additional markings will be added for other games in the future.

Camp Whittier is a camp and retreat center owned and operated by the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County. The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise has dedicated more than 20 years upgrading the facility. Tom Heath is the project manager.

Thank you, Tom Heath, Connard Hogan, Richard Redmond, and Chris Baxter for finishing the tennis court striping on the sports court.

MARCH IS MEMBERSHIP MONTH

March is Membership Month, which means it's time to celebrate our Rotary club, our members and the good we do in our community and around the world. It is time to bring new members!

10 Reasons to love Rotary right now:
  1. Because we are about to eradicate a disease, and you can be a part of it
  2. Because you are connected to people who take action
  3. Because our Foundation is 100 years strong
  4. Because we know all about social networking
  5. Because the good you do really does come back to you
  6. Because membership just became a lot more flexible
  7. Because our work to support peace and end conflict is making the world a better place – one person at a time
  8. Because Rotary’s scholarships help the best and brightest achieve their goals
  9. Because science says Rotarians are happier and healthier
  10. Because our future is bright

DID YOU KNOW?

Each year a distinguished Rotarian is selected as the worldwide president of Rotary International. The process begins two years in advance when a 15-person nominating committee is elected from separate regions of the world.

The committee convenes in September to select the Rotarian to be the presidential nominee. His name is announced to all clubs. Any Rotary club may make an additional nomination before 1 December, which must then be endorsed by one percent of all the Rotary clubs of the world.

If such an event occurs, an election is held by mail ballot. If no additional nomination is presented by the clubs, the person selected by the nominating committee is declared to be the president-nominee. From that point on, that special Rotarian and spouse will spend more than a year in preparation and then a year serving the Rotarians of the world as the international president.

This is one of a series of short articles about Rotary written by Cliff Dochterman, PRIP, and originally published in the Rotary publication, The ABCs of Rotary.

ROTARY PIN CHALLENGE - Week 38

In honor of Women’s History Month, I wear my 20th Anniversary of Women in Rotary pin I received ten years ago. In 1987, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Rotary clubs may not exclude women from membership on the basis of gender. I cannot imagine Rotary without the dedication, service, and friendship of so many wonderful female Rotarians.

I have challenged myself to wear my Rotary pin EVERY day. By doing this I hope to raise awareness of Rotary and Rotary's work. I invite all Sunrise Rotarians to join me in wearing a Rotary pin EVERY day.
