WAYS TO GIVE
Last week, Fred Gaeden, our liaison to The Rotary Foundation (TRF), reminded members of ways they can give to the Annual Fund which supports our projects in the six areas of focus, i.e.
Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
Disease prevention and treatment
Water and sanitation
Maternal and child health
Basic education and literacy
Economic and community development
Members are encouraged to make a minimum contribution of $150 to TRF, either directly through TRF or through our club foundation pledge form.
In the next few weeks we will begin distributing dictionaries to third graders in twelve schools in the Santa Barbara and Hope districts. Thanks to your contributions to the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise Charitable Foundation and a grant from District 5240, more than 800 students will soon each have their own dictionary.
Anyone interested in participating, please contact Dennis Johns.
CAMP WHITTIER WORK DAY
On November 5 and 6, our annual work day will be held to make improvements at Camp Whittier. We plan to resurface and paint lines on the sports court and install new basketball goals.
Plan to put in a few hours of work in the company of your fellow Rotarians, enjoy lunch prepared by the Camp Whittier staff, and celebrate a great day's work with a barbecue dinner. This is a great opportunity to bring your family or a prospective member.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Rotary district governor performs a very significant function in the world of Rotary. He or she is the single officer of Rotary International in the geographic area called a Rotary district, which usually includes about 45 Rotary clubs. The district governors, who have been extensively trained at the worldwide International Assembly, provide the "quality control" for the more than 29,000 Rotary clubs of the world.
They are responsible for maintaining high performance within the clubs of their district. The district governor, who must make an official visit to each club in the district, is never regarded as an "inspector general" Rather, he or she visits as a helpful and friendly adviser to the club officers, as a useful counselor to further the Object of Rotary among the clubs of the district, and as a catalyst to help strengthen the programs of Rotary.
Each district governor performs a very important role in the worldwide operations of Rotary. The district governor is truly a prime example of Service Above Self performing a labour of love.

ROTARY PIN CHALLENGE - Week 17
On the heels of our District Conference and on the occasion of World Polio Day, I am wearing by Women in Rotary pin to acknowledge an inspirational Rotarian, LuzMaria Ortiz. In one week, LuzMaria successfully planned our Prospective Member Mixer, presented on behalf of the Rotary Foundation at our District Conference, was honored at the District Conference for raising more than $1 million for TRF during her year as governor, and then rode more than 65 miles to raise awareness and funds for PolioPlus. And that was just one week! LuzMaria inspires me to be the best Rotarian I can be.
I have challenged myself to wear my Rotary pin EVERY day. By doing this I hope to raise awareness of Rotary and Rotary's work. I invite all Sunrise Rotarians to join me in wearing a Rotary pin EVERY day.
