Teen members of the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara County were invited to enjoy a week at Camp Whittier to learn the art of film making from industry professionals and celebrate the great outdoors. Campers worked together in groups to create their very own short films. View two of the films here.
Special guest director, writer, and producer Chris Landon (Paranormal Activity, We Have a Ghost, Disturbia) shared writing/directing tips and some scary stories with campers. Guest writer and director Leah Bleich met with camp teams to help with the narrative structure and shot lists of their films.TEDx producer Mark Sylvester led a workshop on acting and the importance of improvisation in artistic creation. Visiting filmmakers helped student campers storyboard, arrange their sets, and compose their scenes. Award winning visual effects artist, Leslie Ekker (Titanic, Apollo 13, Hook) led a workshop on effects and helped students with editing techniques of their films. In addition to film making, campers enjoyed healthy outdoor activities like hiking, archery, ropes and climbing courses, and a zip line! After final edits, the students designed posters for their films.
