President Bruce is inspired by our club's connectedness.
One of the eye-opening (and inspiring) things about our club is how members are connected to so many good causes outside of Rotary -- and can open up so many doors for our Rotary projects to make them successful. Sitting in our meetings often includes a series of "I know so-and-so at such-and-such who can help us with this," or "I was on the board of xyz with her and can call." In a time when social scientists are tying many of our social ills to a decline in community connectedness, SB Sunrise Rotary is certainly going against the current -- with impacts that bring meaningful results to people's lives through our charitable work. Kirk Greene brought to my attention the great work that the Women's Fund has done with participation from club members Jann Greene and Joanne Schoenfeld. I attended the Choral Society fundraiser at Rockwood and found myself surrounded by Rotarians Jody Dolan Holehouse (Choral Society board member), Margo Callis (who organized the whole evening brilliantly), and Margorie Woodruff, among others. I was able to resolve an issue for our container up at Camp Whittier through a personal connection. The list goes on and on. We may or may not want to map members' connections, but I think we should remain aware (and grateful for) the interconnections our club members have to offer.
