We have established a collaboration with the Grace Fisher Foundation to assist youth in the Santa Barbara area.

The Grace Fisher Foundation and Santa Barbara Sunrise Rotary have launched a multi-pronged collaboration to assist youth in the Santa Barbara area, including a $500 grant. As many know, the Grace Fisher Foundation is dedicated to providing adaptive arts, dance and music activities for disabled children. The foundation was started by Santa Barbara resident Gracie Fisher, who was stricken by a rare virus when she was just 18 years old, which left her paralyzed from the neck down. Despite her disability, she has become an accomplished painter and has composed numerous musical pieces. These works are featured at her annual Winter Music Showcase, which will be held again this year at the Granada Theater in Santa Barbara on Friday, December 9th at 7:00 pm.

The foundation donated two VIP Winter Showcase tickets to Sunrise Rotary’s recent online auction. The auction netted over $10,000 for Rotary’s service projects. Rotarians will provide volunteer ushers for the Winter Showcase, and will also provide the foundation with lawn space at its annual Dolphin Dive family fundraiser at Chase Palm Park next July 9th. The lawn space will be used for children’s arts activities that will be organized by Gracie Fisher and will be open to ALL area children of ALL abilities.

Gracie Fisher stated, “I’m delighted with our collaboration with Santa Barbara Sunrise Rotary and am thrilled to accept this check, which will allow us to provide drum circle lessons for children in our program at a new space we will be opening in 2023. And, of course, I am really excited to invite everyone to come and hear the fantastic musical lineup we have for this year’s Winter Showcase.”
