Meet our first featured member, Membership Chair, Kirk Greene!
Kirk Greene
Joined Rotary in 1998 (Rotary Club of Seattle); Member of Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise since 2023
Why did you join Rotary?
Seattle 4 was a very prestigious club with the city’s “movers and shakers”—and a club that truly made a difference in the community. This was Rotary’s 4th oldest—and with over 800 members at the time, the largest. Several were clients, suggested that I join, and two sponsored me. I was honored to be part of the club and have been a proud Rotarian since.
What has been your most meaningful or memorable Rotary experience?
Meeting Jann at Seattle 4 and her becoming my wife. And, went to Guatemala to build stoves, water purification units, and start building a home. This was true “hands on” service above self.
What have you learned or gained through Rotary?
I’ve learned that small groups of caring people working together can truly make a difference—and that human beings have an innate desire to help others. It is inspiring to see the common bond of service among Rotarians all over the world.
When you're not Rotary-ing, how do you like to spend your time?
I’ve been an avid cyclist for the past 12 years—and for 2025 created a project to ride 5,000+ miles and raise over $10,000 for United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County. I’m on track with over 4,000 miles and $12,000 raised. Jann and I like to travel, walk the beach, and be involved in our new hometown. I play guitar. We especially enjoyed being involved in Old Spanish Days—Viva La Fiesta.
What does "service above self" mean to you?
Doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. It’s called integrity—and that’s what Rotary is all about.

Each month’s Member Spotlight features a Rotarian sharing their story, experiences, and what Rotary means to them. These spotlights celebrate the diverse paths that bring us together in service and fellowship—and show how Rotary makes a difference both locally and globally. We hope you’ll enjoy getting to know our members in a new way and perhaps be inspired to imagine your own Rotary journey.
