Meet Hannah Rael!

Hannah Rael
A member since 2018, Hannah has discovered purpose, developed leadership skills, and built lasting friendships through her Rotary journey.

Why did you join Rotary?
I joined Rotary while I was working at ShelterBox, a nonprofit that grew out of a Rotary Club's millennium project. I was impressed by the way the Rotary network around the world could successfully coordinate disaster response by connecting with local Rotarians. When I visited SB Sunrise Rotary, I found the same spirit of making things happen and wanted to be a part of it.

What has been your most meaningful or memorable Rotary experience?
Traveling to Nicaragua and seeing firsthand the smiles families had because clean water was coming straight to their homes for the first time is an experience I will never forget. Seeing the water project come to fruition after years of coordination and overcoming challenges shows the power of persistence and is a testament to Rotarian commitment.

What have you learned or gained through Rotary?
Rotary has given me an opportunity to develop leadership experience by taking on committee chair roles and serving as club president. I've learned to be more comfortable public speaking, adapting to change, and working with a diverse group of people.

When you're not Rotary-ing, how do you like to spend your time?
I enjoy fitness classes, yoga, hiking, traveling, spending time with friends, and enjoying good food.

What does "service above self" mean to you?
To me, Service Above Self means seeing the value in cultivating a thriving collective and community in a culture that prioritizes individual pursuits

Each month’s Member Spotlight features a Rotarian sharing their story, experiences, and what Rotary means to them. These spotlights celebrate the diverse paths that bring us together in service and fellowship and show how Rotary makes a difference both locally and globally. We hope you’ll enjoy getting to know our members in a new way and perhaps be inspired to imagine your own Rotary journey.
