New band instruments, sound system, and equipment provided to Puerto Vallarta community center.
The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise and Rotary Club of Carpinteria have partnered with the Los Volcanes music program, located outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to provide 15 new band instruments, as well as a sound system, projector and chairs for the music room.
Los Volcanes, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta, renovated an abandoned building next to a new school into a community center. It is used by the school in the daytime. They have begun English classes because PV is a tourist town. They also teach computer, math and music. There are 300 students who attend in either the morning or the afternoon; many have fallen behind because of the pandemic.
Sunriser Luz Maria Ortiz attended a presentation of musical instruments and tour of the music room. Art Fumerton, a 28-year Rotarian in the Puerto Vallarta area, presented a trumpet to one of the young participants.
