Congratulations to the four recipients of new laptop computers for their college studies.
Four graduating seniors from La Cuesta High School now have a head start on their futures with new laptops donated by the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise!
Congratulations to Emma Balster-Nelson, Nancy Carachure, Catherine Colin Carbajal, and Karim Jallah! They each will be attending Santa Barbara City College next year.
The students were selected on the basis of their desire to continue their education in post-secondary institutions and their inability to purchase the necessary tools for them to pursue that goal. Interested students were asked to submit a video of their plans for their future. The winners were selected by a committee consisting of teachers and Sonia Amaral, Principal of La Cuesta.
The laptops were presented at a ceremony held on May 19, 2022 attended by Dennis Johns, Community Service Committee and La Cuesta Laptop Program Chair; Judith McCaffrey, Past President and President Elect; and Chris Baxter, Past President.
In 2021, our club awarded ten laptops to graduating Seniors at La Cuesta. The program is being evaluated with Ms. Amaral with hopes of continuing it on an annual basis.
